Publishers blurb: ‘Girl A,’ she said. ‘The girl who escaped. If anyone was going to make it, it was going to be you.’ I am Lex Gracie: but they call me Girl A. I grew up with my family on the moors. I escaped when I was fifteen years old. NOW SOMETHING IS PULLING ME BACK…

My review: It’s been a while since I’ve read a book quite as gripping as Girl A. I savoured every page of this darkly delicious, yet utterly devastating novel. The plot itself is disturbingly haunting and will definitely stay with you for a long time, as I found myself profoundly impacted by the events which unfolded and the trauma which becomes deeply engrained into the surviving characters. There is a lot of psychology to unpack and I found myself gripped by the protagonists strong-willed, yet damaged and vulnerable, persona. I loved how the past was slowly revealed through flashbacks in the narrative and although they were dark, I found these the most gripping chapters. My only criticism was the ending seemed a bit rushed in places, but it didn’t distract from the fact that this is a stunning novel. There is also a heartbreaking twist that you won’t see coming…
